The name of the game is ball speed and when you can swing a Driver faster because of its weight, and you combine that with a VFT face, you should get a driver that feels hot. Both the X Hot and X Hot Pro also feature the three-way, face angle adjustability introduced last year in Callaways RAZR Fit driver (Open, Square and Closed). This driver does produce a feel that the ball comes off the clubface hot. It feels like you can swing it faster, and you can! Feel as far as the ability to hit a draw or fade is not quite as good.Īny time a Driver is designed to be extra forgiving, you will lose a bit of workability, this has happened with the X Hot.Īnother point to consider when talking about feel is the use of the word “Hot” in the title of the club. First is the weight, this club because of the titanium head, lightweight shaft and fixed center of gravity is light. It features our revolutionary Speed Step Technology to reduce drag and increase ball speeds across the face. With this club, you can hit it farther than ever before while still maintaining control of your game. Additionally, the X Hot is weighted with a slight draw bias. The Callaway XR 16 Driver is a game-changing driver that delivers the most distance and forgiveness in golf. Simply put it just doesn’t sound like it is going to launch as far (even though it sometimes does!) To be fair, the driver did take a few rounds for me to get used to primarily because it has a lighter head than I’ve been using (a D3 swing weight at 460cc’s compared to D4), along with a Project X stiff shaft, at 46 inches (which is touch longer than I have been using). The sound is disappointing when compared to the Epic Flash or the Rogue but it is not ear piercing or dull. Large forgiving titanium clubhead in a gray/black look. Overall the X Hot is a very good driver and one that should see Callaway back on the front foot. This Driver has the look of all the modern drivers. We feel the adjustable feature is a bit of a 'nice to have' as the club is very forgiving as it is and the face angle changes are quite large.Īt address the club sat nicely behind the ball with a large silver head with some slightly familiar graphics that help to visually scale the clubhead down. The X Hot uses the same hosel as the Extreme driver, but there are no moveable weights so the changes in loft are all you have. At impact the head felt stable and invoked the word. With the stock Callaway RCH 65 regular shaft, the club felt very balanced throughout the swing. The sound is markedly consistent across the face and although distinctive, doesn’t draw attention.

There are only these two options which seems a little limiting, but they do the job if you need to change the ball flight. The Big Bertha B21 driver produces a staccato metallic crack that’s a medium plus in volume. If you still have a few directional issues there is the adjustable hosel that will open the face by 2.5 degrees to de-loft it or close it by 1.5 degrees to increase loft. The X Hot was also very forgiving right across the face so this driver will suit most abilities of players. The flight was a bit higher than the Callaway RAZR Fit Extreme driver due to the different weight structure of the club. The new club has a number of features, some of which haven’t been seen before with a Callaway driver, including a new hosel design.

You can feel the hotter face at impact as the ball effortlessly takes off on a solid penetrating trajectory. This driver isn’t aimed at replacing either the RAZR Fit or X Hot line (in fact, we’ll see the X2 Hot line in early 2014), but as a third choice for consumers. One of the reasons for going back to an all titanium driver is that is sounds better and the X Hot driver does sound very good. The excellent Project X Velocity shaft is less than 60 grams despite being 46 inches long as standard. This means a lighter head for more ball speeds and the whole club comes in at just under 300 grams, which is impressive for an adjustable driver. The advance in manufacturing techniques has enabled Callaway to use a new titanium casting process to create a cast head with very thin walls.

Callaway were founded on the basis of hot faced titanium drivers and the Callaway X Hot driver takes us back to these glory days.
